Not everyone has the level of “rockstar-ness” needed to pull off long beards, or even the time to take care of them.
Measuring no more than 2″ in length, short beards have the ability to make you look both elegant and manly. Hence why corporates who grow beards, grow short ones. Reading onwards, you’ll be seeing a comprehensive list of some short bearded styles you can choose from, but first, let’s see if your face will look good when you join the short beard gang.

Is Short Beard A Good Fit For You?
Though the pros of keeping a short beard far outnumber the cons, your decision on whether to keep it short ultimately depends on how it’ll look on you. Usually, this depends on the pattern in which your facial hair grows. If your beards grow evenly across your face, i.e. hair isn’t sparsely populated, then you can give it a try.
Pros of Keeping A Short Beard
● Less time spent grooming
● Weird stuff, like food crumbs, won’t get stuck
● No weather-related issues. Your beard won’t go haywire whenever there’s a storm.
Factors That Determine How A Short Beard Will Look On You
Again, having a short beard might make you look less manly than if you’d stuck with a clean-shaven face, which defeats the whole purpose of growing one. So let’s see what you’ll need to keep at the back of your mind before you begin your stop shaving.
1. Distinct Facial Features
Short beards do a poor job of hiding prominent facial features. So if you’re not comfortable with your jaw or cheekbones being accentuated, you might want to go for a different look.
2. Face Shape
Not all face shapes look great with short beards. For example, a person with a round, chubby face might not look their best with a goatee but will look better with a stubble or a diamond-shaped beard which gives their face some definition.
Likewise, someone with a square face would look great if they have longer hair on the chin, and shorter on the sides. If your head shape’s sought of long, you should try an extended goatee. And If you don’t know what shape of face you have, ask your barber the next time you go for a hair cut.
3. Skin Sensitivity
The beard style you opt for will determine the intensity of your grooming. If you have extremely sensitive skin, perhaps avoid any style that’ll require frequent maintenance. Since the last thing, you’ll want with your short beard is some breakouts on the side.
Trimming Your Beard
Once you’ve decided on the short beard style you want, your next challenge will be to grow your facial hair to a suitable length – something you can trim into any shape, but not necessarily long.
It’ll take roughly two weeks to get the desired amount of facial hair. But these two weeks can feel like a lifetime of hell since you have to deal with beard itch. Don’t give up, beard itch can usually be avoided if you use a really good beard product like Grow A beard oil.
It contains argan and jojoba oil to keep the skin beneath your beard hydrated, so it won’t flake and itch. Your beard should grow nicely after applying this oil.
When you’re ready to trim your beard for the first time, make sure you visit a barber, so he’ll be able to create precise definitions without injuring you. If you have your own Grow A Beard shaper you should be able to skip a trip to the barber.
The plan is to establish precise lines you can keep trimming, without needing to start your beard journey all over again.
Note, while trimming, make sure you set your beard trimmer to cut slightly longer than you anticipate keeping. The reason is that it’s easier to keep cutting off the length till you get the desired style than to cut too short and have nothing to work with later on.
Use a beard comb (GO TO AMAZON AND GET OURS) to raise the hairs you want to trim, so you cut off only the right amount. When you’re done trimming your beard, you can either fade out your neckline (up to two fingers above your Adam’s apple) by going from 2 to 1 on your beard trimmer setting or shave the whole thing off.
Maintaining Short Beards
If you want all your hard work to pay off in the long term, you’ll need to groom regularly. For your beard to stay short, you’ll need to trim it often (not daily), wash it every 2 to 3 days (using specialized beard shampoo and beard conditioner) and of course, apply beard oil – massage it deeply into the skin beneath your beard, instead of just on the hair follicles.
Regular grooming will stimulate the growth of healthy beard, and keep your pores unclogged.
Short Beard Styles: Minimal Growth
These styles are particularly great for guys in corporate environments who don’t like going cleanly shaven.
1. Defined Goatee
The hallmark of this goatee is the precise lines. The goatee’s partially shaved while a bit of soul patch is left under the lip and chin to give off a masculine looking jawline.
2. 5 O’clock Shadow
One of those “just rolled out of bed” looks which require almost no effort. Just shave really close to your face, without defining any lines or fading out your neck. Just let it be.
3. Chin Strap & Mustache
If you can’t grow a full beard but really want to, this chin strap’s the perfect alternative. To achieve this look, shave other parts of your face but let your mustache, as well as the hair on your jawline, grow out naturally. Trim the mustache to match the chin strap and voila.
4. Little Fuzz
All you have to do here is leave your short beard to grow. Whenever it starts getting too long, you trim it down, but otherwise let your beard look like you’ve put in minimal effort.
Thicker Short Beard Styles
This section’s for guys who fancy a little extra hair on their face, but still like it short.
5. Tapered
Gradually fade out the sideburns so the chin looks elongated. It looks great on those with round faces, since their faces will be stretched down.
6. Full Goatee
The traditional goatee requires you to grow your hair somewhat longer than other goatees, so you’ll have enough room to outline soul patch. Keep the lines along your cheekbones neat, and only trim once in a while.
7. Textured Short Beard
Getting this style’s more dependent on how your hair grows. If it naturally curls at the tips, allow the beard to grow, then use a Grow A Beard brush to further curl the edges whenever you trim.
If you aren’t sure which of these will look good on you, take the time to experiment with different styles. Who knows if you’ll come on with something new.
